Chinese Medicine

What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive, evidence-informed system of healthcare developed over thousands of years. It includes treatments such as Chinese Herbal Medicine, acupuncture, diet therapy, and lifestyle advice, all designed to restore harmony, balance, and the natural flow of qi (vital energy) throughout the body.

The focus of Chinese Medicine appointments is Chinese Herbal Medicine, which is the use of plant, mineral, and some animal substances, combined into personalised formulas tailored to your specific health needs. These formulas aim to address both the symptoms and the underlying cause of imbalance, supporting the body’s innate healing processes.

Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with herbal medicine to enhance treatment outcomes. It involves the insertion of fine needles at specific points on the body to regulate qi, improve circulation, and promote healing.

Chinese Medicine is internationally recognised and is used around the world to manage a wide range of health conditions. Since 2012, Chinese Medicine practitioners have been nationally registered in Australia under AHPRA (the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), alongside general practitioners, psychologists, and physiotherapists.

What to expect:

At your appointment, the senior student practitioner and their qualified supervisor will take the time to listen to your health concerns and conduct a thorough assessment of your overall well-being. This includes taking a detailed medical history, discussing your current symptoms, and checking your tongue and pulse — key diagnostic tools in Chinese medicine.

Based on your individual needs, they will explain your personalised treatment plan. If you’re comfortable, treatment can begin in your first session.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Your practitioner will tailor a specific Chinese herbal prescription. These formulas are carefully selected to match your specific diagnosis and constitution and may support treatment of internal conditions such as digestion, stress, sleep, menstrual irregularities, or immune support. Herbal prescriptions may be given in granules, pills, or raw (dried) form, depending on the clinic’s dispensary.

Herbal medicine can be used on its own or alongside acupuncture and other techniques, forming a comprehensive approach to restore balance and support your health goals.

Acupuncture
Your acupuncture treatment may involve the use of fine, sterile, single-use needles made from medical-grade stainless steel. These are gently inserted at specific points along the body’s meridians to promote balance and healing.

Other treatment methods may include:

Throughout your appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and be involved in your care. Chinese medicine is holistic, collaborative, and always centred around your comfort and consent.
